Summary

To identify incompatibilities between Windows Server 2008 R2 and storage controllers that were designed for Windows Server 2012, an update is available that will log the following warning message in Event Viewer:

This Storport miniport driver is trying to use more than 8 SCSI buses. This exceeds the supported maximum on this operating system. Please contact your storage controller manufacturer to determine whether this device and driver is designed to work on this operating system.

This warning message will be logged when the system is started and the Storport miniport driver detects that the storage controller is trying to use more than the maximum number of supported buses. For Windows Server 2008 R2 and earlier versions of Windows, 8 is maximum number of supported buses.

If you see this warning message being logged, see the documentation from the storage controller vendor to make sure that this hardware is supported for Windows Server 2008 R2.
