MBAM 2.0 Setup fails during Configuration Manager Integration Scenario with SQL Server 2008

Symptoms

When you run MBAM 2.0 setup on a Configuration Manager 2007 or Configuration Manager 2012 Primary Site server which is running SQL Server 2008, MBAM 2.0 setup may fail to complete with the following error message:

Setup was unable to complete

Additionally, MBAM 2.0 Setup log will show the following:

Exception thrown by custom action:

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The Value expression for the text box ‘textbox30’ refers to the field ‘KeyProtectorId’. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current dataset scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified dataset scope.

Cause

This problem occurs due to incompatibility of MBAM 2.0 with SQL Server 2008 on Configuration Manager 2007 or Configuration Manager 2012.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, upgrade SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012.
