DLNA playback does not work when a device is connected to Windows 8 using WiFi Direct

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows 8 PC.
  • You have a device such as a smart phone that is capable of DLNA playback.
  • You pair the device to the Windows 8 PC using WiFi Direct.

After the device is paired, you try to use DLNA playback and it does not work.

Resolution

To work around this issue, attempt to pair the device again using WiFi Direct. After pairing the device a second time, DLNA playback will work.
