Purging of archiving data fails intermittently in a Lync Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

Assume that you try to delete some old data in an archiving database that is hosted by Microsoft SQL Server in a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 environment. To do this, you enable the purging of archiving data on the Lync Server 2010 Archiving server. In this situation, the purging process fails intermittently. Additionally, the following error is logged in the Lync event log on the Archiving server:
Note If a Lync Server 2010 Monitoring server is installed on the same computer as the Archiving server,this issue occurs in the archiving database and does not occur in the Call Detail Record (CDR) or Quality of Experience (QoE) database.

Cause

This issue occurs because the RtcCleanupDB stored procedure in SQL Server times out.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
2859580 Description of the cumulative update for Lync Server 2010, Archiving Service: July 2013

Note This cumulative update affects only the Archiving server.
