XADM: Setup Fails with Error c00706ab: "Network Address Is Invalid"

Symptoms

Setup fails on the Active Directory Connector (ADC); schema prep also fails. The Setup log logs the following errors:
Starting ADC ##### setup....
Entering ScGetSchemaVersion
About to create the dob for object /dc=DN/dc=DN/dc=Domain/cn=Configuration/cn=Schema/cn=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Adc

Cause

This issue may occur if the Schema Master Server object is no longer valid (the server has been deleted).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, run the following command-line utility:
dcdiag /s:dc-server-name /v /test:knowsofroleholders
Verify that the Role Schema Owner is pointing to a valid server and that it is available. If the Role Schema Owner is not pointing to a valid server, refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for information about how to resolve this issue.
