"Access Denied" error message when you try to download an IPP driver in Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2012.
  • You enable the Internet Printing Role service.
  • You install some printers by using drivers that were provided by the printer vendor.
  • You try to a download an Internet Print Protocol (IPP) driver.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Access Denied

Cause

This problem may occur if the .webpnp MIME type is not registered in the IIS MIME entry when you enable the Internet Printing Role service.

Fix it for me

Let me fix it myself
To resolve this problem, run the following command in Windows Server 2012 to add the .webpnp MIME type to the IIS configuration:

appcmd set config /section:staticContent /+"[fileExtension='.webpnp',mimeType='application/octet-stream']"
