Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.
  • The registry value InitialKeyboardIndicators is set to a 2 as noted in KB Article 154529.
  • The Num Lock key is currently enabled (ON) after log on.
  • The computer then enters Hybrid Shutdown, either from user input or power management settings.

In this scenario, when the system resumes from Hybrid Shutdown, you notice that the Num Lock key is not enabled (OFF) at the logon screen. You may also notice the same behavior when the system is placed into Hybrid Sleep.
