Symptoms

You may randomly receive the following Internet Explorer error message:
Procedure entry point wnsprintfa could not be located in the dynamic link library shlwapi.dll
The title bar of the browser may display the following error message:
loadwc.exe - entry point not found
When you try to uninstall or reinstall Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
Ordinal 441 could not be found in the dynamic library SHLWAPI.DLL

Cause

This behavior can happen when Internet Explorer has the incorrect version of the Shlwapi.dll file installed.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, install a newer version of Shlwapi.dll file. Use the following method:
  • Copy and install a different version of Shlwapi.dll onto your computer from a computer that is running the same version of Internet Explorer, and that is not experiencing the same behavior.
