Error Message "10060 Connection Timed Out" and the Via Header Are Displayed When Web Publishing

If an Internet client computer attempts to access a published Web site behind an Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server that is configured in a chained configuration, and the site is unavailable (for example, the network between the published site and the last ISA Server-based server in the chain is down), you may receive the following error message: Also, you may receive a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) error that contains the internal name (the Via header) of the ISA Server-based servers in the chain.

This problem can occur when ISA Server is chained with other ISA Server-based servers. In a single ISA Server-based server configuration with no upstream routing, the error message is not displayed.

To resolve this problem, you must determine if ISA Server is being used as an upstream proxy with reverse proxy for publishing. If ISA Server is being used as an upstream proxy with reverse proxy for publishing and you do not want to expose the Via header that contains the computer information, you can modify the error page named "11001.htm". This error page is located under the ErrorHtmls folder on the upstream server. The full path for this folder is: %SystemRoot%\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ErrorHtmls.
