Wmiprvse.exe process crashes when you run a WMI script on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008

Symptoms

Assume that you have a Network File System (NFS) shared folder mounted on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008. You run a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) script to obtain the disk usage information on the computer. For example, you run the following command: 
select * from Win32_LogicalDisk where FileSystem <> NULL
In this situation, the Wmiprvse.exe process crashes.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
