This Storage Group Already Contains the Maximum Number of Stores Allowed

Symptoms

When you attempt to add an additional mailbox store to your Exchange 2000 Server computer, you may receive the following message:
"This storage group already contains the maximum number of stores allowed. ID No: C1034A7A Exchange System Manager"

Cause

This issue can occur when you are running the Standard Edition of Exchange 2000 Server or of Exchange Server 2003. These versions of exchange have a limit of only one mailbox store. Although you are still able to create additional storage groups, no new mailbox stores are created within them.

Workaround

To create new mailbox stores, install either an Enterprise Edition of Exchange or additional Exchange computers.
