XADM: Shared Drive M No Longer Shared Out After Server Restart

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

If you share any installable file system (IFS) volumes or folders (drive M by default), these shares may not reappear after you restart your Exchange 2000 Server computer.

Cause

This problem can occur because after an Exchange 2000 server that has folders in the Exchange installable file system (ExIFS) shared out is restarted, these folders are not shared out again because of problems with service dependencies. Microsoft Windows 2000 Server attempts to create the shares as the server service is starting. At this time, the Exchange 2000 information store is not started and drive M is not available. As a result, the share is not created.
