You cannot perform an online backup operation by using Windows Server Backup in Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

Assume that you try to perform an online backup operation by using Windows Server Backup on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012. To do this, you start the Windows Server Backup Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, click Online Backup in the console tree, and then click the Continue button. In this situation, you experience one of the following issues:
  • You receive an error message that resembles the following:
    Script: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\script.vbs
    Line: 2
    Character: 1
    Error: No applications is associated with the specified file for this operation.
    Code: 80070483 Source: Null
  • Internet Explorer starts. However, the Address bar is empty.

    Note After you click the Continue button, the expected behavior is that Internet Explorer goes to the following webpage:
    http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/home/features/online-backup/
Therefore, you cannot perform the online backup operation.

This hotfix is also available at Microsoft Update Catalog.
