Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
Known issue
This hotfix adds an additional "%systemroot%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\" entry to the
Path environment variable. This may be a duplicate entry. If the
Path environment variable becomes too long, some applications may fail when they read or change the variable. This issue can be resolved by deleting the duplicate entry from the
Path environment variable.

This script was originally developed to check for and delete duplicate paths in the PATH system environment variable. These duplicate paths may be added by faulty software installers. Additionally, there's a known bug that's associated with update 2823180. This bug adds an extra instance of the following string to the PATH environment variable:
%systemroot%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0
Therefore, the length of the PATH variable may be close to the 32,767-character limit. In some cases, applications that try to add more paths may fail. You can resolve this issue by deleting the duplicate entries from the PATH variable.
Prerequisites
To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 SP1
- Windows Server 2008 SP2
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Additionally, to install update 2823180, Windows Management Framework 3.0 must be installed or previously installed in Windows.
