Slide show controls are always displayed on the lower-left side of a touch screen when you open the controls in PowerPoint 2013

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you tap anywhere on a touch screen that is larger than 30 inches to open the slide show controls in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013, the controls are displayed horizontally on the lower-left side of the screen, so you have to walk to the left side of the screen to use them. If the view direction is set right-to-left, the controls are displayed on the lower-right side of the screen, so you have to walk to the right side of the screen to use them.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the following update. After you apply this hotfix, when the touch screen is larger than 30 inches, the slide show controls are always displayed vertically on the side of the screen that you tapped.

Registry key information

Important
Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

You can follow these steps to disable the hotfix or to adjust the placement of the slide show controls:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\PowerPoint\Options\
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type LargeScreenSSToolbarBehavior, and then press Enter.
  5. In the Details pane, right-click LargeScreenSSToolbarBehavior, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type a value, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.
Notes
  • If you set the value of the LargeScreenSSToolbarBehavior registry key to 0, the slide show controls are always displayed horizontally on the lower-left side of the screen (or on the lower-right side, if your view direction is set right-to-left).
  • If you set the value of the LargeScreenSSToolbarBehavior registry key to 1, the slide show controls are always displayed vertically on the side of the screen that you tapped.
  • If you set the value of the LargeScreenSSToolbarBehavior registry key to the default of 2, the placement of the slide show controls changes based on the size of your screen.
