Error message when the UNIX/Linux client for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 is targeted with Software Inventory policies


Symptoms

When the UNIX/Linux client for Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 (SP1) is targeted with Software Inventory policies, the UNIX/Linux client does not request policy, and Client Activity changes to Inactive. Additionally, you see the following error message in the Scxcm.log file:

ATTEMPT TO EXECUTE A FILE SYSTEM INVENTORY CYCLE HAS BEEN TRAPPED

Cause

This issue occurs because the version of the client that is being used does not process Software Inventory correctly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the updated UNIX/Linux client software (build version 1.0.0.4014 or a later build) from the following Microsoft website:Note You can determine the UNIX/Linux client build version from the file name of the client package .tar file. For example, for the following file name, the client build version is 1.0.0.4014:  
cm-RHEL6x86.1.0.0.4014.tar

Workaround

To work around this issue, you can disable Software Inventory policies for UNIX/Linux clients by using Custom Client Device Settings. This enables you to continue using the older client version.
