The MOMPerfSnapshotHelper.exe process crashes or experiences high CPU usage in Windows Server 2008 SP2

Symptoms

Assume that you run Microsoft System Center 2012 Operations Manager to collect performance counter information on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2). In this situation, the MOMPerfSnapshotHelper.exe process crashes or experiences high CPU usage.

Note This issue usually occurs on a server that has Microsoft SharePoint 2010 installed. This is because there are more than 64 V2 performance counters installed.

Cause

This issue occurs because of incorrect memory reallocation logic that is used to create a new query node.

Note When you use more than 64 V2 performance counters to collect system data, the query node must be reallocated.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows Server 2008 SP2.

Windows Server 2008 file information notes
