"Internet Explorer has stopped functioning." error being thrown when executing Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8

Problem

When I re-install Windows 8 and run Internet Explorer 10, it throws the "Internet Explorer has stopped working." error message and fails to execute Internet Explorer 10.

Cause

The registration for Internet Explorer 10 related system files may be invalid or the error is caused by additional features from the Internet Explorer.

Solution

Please follow the next steps in order.

  1. In the Desktop screen, right click Internet Explorer icon and Internet Explorer in order and then click Run as administrator.


    Attention When the User Account Control message shows up, enter the administrator password or click Yes.

  2. In the Internet Explorer screen, click Tool and then Internet Options.



  3. In the Internet Options screen, click Advanced and Reset in order.



  4. In the Internet Explorer Restore Default Settings screen, check Delete Personalization and click Reset.



  5. Restart the Internet Explorer and see if the problem has been resolved.
