Installation information

To download the update rollup package and extract the files that are contained in the update rollup package, follow these steps:
  1. Download the update packages that Microsoft Update provides for each computer. Microsoft Update provides the appropriate updates according to the components that are installed on each computer.
  2. Apply the appropriate MSP files on each computer.

Note MSP files are included in the update rollup package. Apply all MSP files that relate to a specific computer. For example, if the web console and console roles are installed on a management server, apply the MSP files on the management server. Apply one MSP file on a server for each specific role that the server holds.

  3. Import the following management packs:
    • Microsoft.SystemCenter.AlertAttachment.mpb
    • Microsoft.SystemCenter.IntelliTraceProfiling.mpb

For information about how to import a management pack from a disk, see How to Import an Operations Manager Management Pack.

Note Management packs are included in the Server component updates in the following path:

%SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server\Management Packs for Update Rollups

Virtual Machine Manager installation instructions
Known issue

To install Update Rollup 2 for Virtual Machine Manager, you have to uninstall Update Rollup 1 for Virtual Machine Manager from your system.
  • If you download Update Rollup 2 for Virtual Machine Manager from Microsoft Update Catalog and install Update Rollup 2 without uninstalling Update Rollup 1, you should uninstall Update Rollup 2 for Virtual Machine Manager and then uninstall Update Rollup 1 for Virtual Machine Manager by using the Programs and Features item in Control Panel.
  • If you use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to update Virtual Machine Manager and you have already installed Update Rollup 1 for Virtual Machine Manager, then you will not receive the Update Rollup 2 notification until Update Rollup 1 is uninstalled.

When Update Rollup 2 is applied to a system that is running Virtual Machine Manager with Update Rollup 1 installed, the installer does not update files correctly. This issue is caused by the way Update Rollup 1 was packaged. The fixes in Update Rollup 1 are correct. It is the packaging of Update Rollup 1 that causes this issue. If you do not have to have Update Rollup 2, then you should continue to operate with Update Rollup 1. However, if you choose not to install Update Rollup 2 and a later update rollup is released that you have to implement, you will still have to remove Update Rollup 1 first before you install a later update rollup.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes your organization. We have performed cause analysis on the issue and have established processes to prevent future recurrences of this situation.

Uninstall instructions for Update Rollup 1

Data Protection Manager installation instructions
Attention: Current Data Protection Manager to Microsoft Azure customers

The Microsoft Azure Online Backup Preview is ending, and the existing service will be replaced with an integrated service as part of the Microsoft Azure portal. Your existing data "will not" be migrated to the new service. Therefore, we recommend that you retrieve all your preview data by May 4, 2013. To access the new service, please upgrade to Update Rollup 2 for System Center 2012 Service Pack 1. After Update Rollup 2 is installed, Data Protection Manager will be unable to communicate to the existing service. For a smoother upgrade experience, and to enable the new Microsoft Azure Online Backup Preview, follow these steps:
  1. Retrieve all data that is residing on Microsoft Azure.
  2. Change the protection groups to remove all "Online Recovery Points."
  3. Unregister your Online Subscription.
  4. Uninstall the Microsoft Azure Online Backup Agent that is installed on the computer by going to the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.
  5. Upgrade to Update Rollup 2 for System Center 2012 Service Pack 1.
  6. Register the Data Protection Manager Server for online protection. The new registration process includes certificates as an authentication mechanism.
  7. Install the new Microsoft Azure Online Backup Agent. It can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Azure Service portal. The portal will be displayed after you complete the registration process in step 6.
  8. Change the protection groups that require Online Protection, and then opt in for online protection.

Further documentation and steps are available under "Recovery Services" at the following Microsoft website:
Data Protection Manager installation instructions
