Summary

The default file location for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 differs from the default location of the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server files.

In Exchange Server 5.5, the default path to the Exchange files is C:\exchsrvr (where C is the name of the drive). In Exchange Server 2000, the default path to the Exchange 2000 files is C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr. This change in location provides better organization for all programs that are installed by Exchange 2000 Server Setup.

More information

The relative paths to subfolders in the Exchsrvr folder hierarchy remains the same for both Exchange Server and Exchange 2000. For example, in Exchange Server, the Mdbdata folder is in C:\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata, and in Exchange 2000, the default path for the same subfolder is C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata.

If you upgrade your computer from a previous version of Exchange Server, the directory structure does not change. For example, if you upgrade an installation of Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000, and the original installation is in the C:\Exchsrvr folder, the Exchange 2000 upgrade is installed in the C:\Exchsrvr folder as well.
