Charms bar closes immediately after it is displayed in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, the Charms bar may close immediately after it is displayed.

Cause

This problem can occur if the Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse feature has been activated in the Ease of Access Center.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, you need to disable the Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse feature.

To disable the "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse" feature, follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Open the Windows Run box using keyboard press Windows logo key‌ Windows logo key+R
  2. Type in control and then press Enter. This will open the Control Panel window.
  3. In the Control Panel, click on Ease of Access Center settings. 
  4. Click on Make the mouse easier to use settings to open it.
  5. Under Make it easier to manage windows section, remove the check mark against Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse   
  6. Click on Apply and then OK.
  7. Close the Control Panel window.
