Microsoft Store app Pinball FX2 may display error when launched

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have an OEM PC with Windows 8 or Windows RT preinstalled on it.
  • Your screen resolution is set to a high resolution, such as 1920x1080.
  • The Pinball FX2 game has been downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store.

In this scenario, when you launch the Pinball FX2 app, you may see the following error message appear:

Pinball FX2 does not support large text and UI presentation.

If you select OK, the game finishes loading and you are able to play without any further issues.

Cause

This message may appear when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You have turned on the setting "Make everything on your screen bigger" under PC Settings->Ease of Access.
  • The Windows 8 scaling feature is being used to account for a higher pixel density on the display.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, update Pinball FX2 to the latest version available on the Microsoft Store. After updating the app, the only time you should see the message is if you have enabled the Ease of Access setting "Make everything on your screen bigger".

Note: The error can be safely ignored and does not affect gameplay in Pinball FX2.

More Information

The first condition that causes the message to occur simply conveys that the "Make everything on your screen bigger" is not compatible with Pinball FX2 and when playing the game, this feature will not be used.

In the second condition, Pinball FX2 incorrectly makes assumptions that the scaling that is occurring is a result of the "Make everyhting on your screen bigger" feature being enabled.
