"Sort & Filter on Headers" check box does not work correctly in SharePoint Designer 2013

Symptoms

After you click to select the Sort & Filter on Headers check box on a page in Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2013, the check box does not stay selected. Therefore, you do not know whether this setting is enabled.

Notes
  • The Sort & Filter on Headers check box is located on the Design tab on the Data View Tools tab.
  • This issue occurs if you add a data form web part.

Workaround

To determine whether the "Sort & Filter on Headers" setting is enabled, use one of the following methods:
  • View the page in a browser. If the setting is enabled, you can use the headers to filter and sort columns.
  • View the code file. If the setting is enabled, the following XSLT template name is added to the code file:
    <xsl:template name="dvt.headerfield">
    Note When you click to select the check box, the correct XSLT template is inserted into the page to enable the "Sort & Filter on Headers" setting. If you click the check box again, the XSLT template is removed to disable the setting.
