This update enables you to use BCM in both versions of Office. However, databases created using Outlook 2010 can only be accessed from Outlook 2010. Similarly, databases created using Outlook 2013 can only be accessed from Outlook 2013. Both databases are separate and do not synchronize.
After installing the compatibility pack, launch Outlook 2013 to complete startup and migrate your existing database. This will copy your existing database and data into a new Outlook 2013-compatible BCM database. Your existing database will remain unaffected.
Prerequisites
You must have Business Contact Manager for Microsoft Outlook installed.

Known issues and changes in behavior
Databases are not automatically synchronized across versions
This update enables you to use BCM in both Office 2010 and Office 2013. However, the database created using Outlook 2010 can only be accessed from Outlook 2010. Similarly, the database created using Outlook 2013 can only be accessed from Outlook 2013. Both databases are separate and are not synchronized.
If you use shared databases, be aware of the following:
- All users must connect to the shared database using the same version of BCM and the same version of Outlook.
- If different Outlook versions are being used (2010 and 2013), each version connects to one version of the database. The two versions of the databases are not synchronized.
Remote database administration
To set up a Business Contact Manager database on a server, you need to use the Business Contact Manager Database Tool. After the release of the update, Microsoft will release a new version of this tool.
Upgrading from Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013
If you are using a previous version of BCM in Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 and upgrade to Outlook 2013, you may see the following error:
The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occurred. MAPI was unable to load the information service BCMMS.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.
Use one of the following methods to correct the error:
- If you are using BCM in Outlook 2010, install the Compatibility Update described in this article.
- If you are using BCM in Outlook 2007, install the full version of the BCM Compatibility Pack described in this article.
Followup flagging does not work
If you select
Followup from a Contact Record form, the flag will not be set to follow up. To work around this issue, flag a record for follow-up in the
Contact Management view.
