Excel does not refresh pivot table field list for dynamic sets created by Analysis Services Personalization Extensions

Symptoms

Pivot table filed list not updated as changes are made to SSAS server, even though Excel knows the sets are there it does not display them for the user to access.

Cause

This is a known issue with Excel 2010 and the SSAS Personalization Extensions, it may be resolved in a future release.

Resolution

Two possible workarounds:

Create a brand new pivot table and start over from scratch. The first time a pivot table is created, all sets are made visible.
From that time on, the only new sets that are made visible to you are the ones created from Excel.

If you are aware of a named set that is being hidden from you, and you are aware of its name, then you can create a proxy.
For example, you can define a new set named �Proxy for Genders 12� which has an MDX definition of �{[Genders12]}�.
