Address Book Web Query service fails when you set the UseNormalizationRules parameter to "False" in Lync Server 2013

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run the Set-CsAddressBookConfiguration cmdlet together with the UseNormalizationRules parameter in a Microsoft Lync Server 2013 environment. The UseNormalizationRules parameter is set to False.
  • A user signs in to a Lync 2013 client.
  • The user uses the Lync 2013 client to search for another user who has a phone number.
In this scenario, the search result list for the user who has a phone number is not returned. Additionally, when you run the  Test-CSAddressBookService cmdlet to test the Address Book Web Query service, the cmdlet fails, and the following error message is returned:
Error Message : 403, Forbidden

Cause

This issue occurs because Lync Server 2013 incorrectly counts the attributes of a user who has a phone number when Lync Server 2013 parses binary large object (BLOB) data. Therefore, an internal error message is returned to the Address Book Web Query service request.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
2781547 Description of the cumulative update for Lync Server 2013: February 2013

Note After you install this update, you must also run the Update-CsAddressBook cmdlet in the Lync Server 2013 environment.
