FIX: Proxy server settings for Internet Explorer do not persist after a warm boot of a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run Windows Internet Explorer on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device.
  • You configure Internet Explorer to use a proxy server.
  • You restart the device by using a warm-boot procedure.

    Note The different boot process types are warm booting, cold booting, and clean booting. The warm-boot procedure should clear the program memory of the device while it retains storage memory.
In this scenario, the proxy server settings for Internet Explorer do not persist after the warm-boot procedure is run.

After you apply this update, you must enable a registry setting in order to make the Internet Explorer proxy server settings persist after you run a warm-boot procedure. Specifically, you must set the DWORD value of the RetainProxySettings registry entry to 1 in the following registry subkey:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer]

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
