Some tools from the Windows SDK 7.1 fail on Windows 8 OS

Symptoms

The following tools from the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4 may fail to work on the Windows 8 OS:

Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\bin\TSPDesigner\TSPDesigner.exe
Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\bin\guidgen.exe

Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\bin\VirtualLightSensor.exe

Cause

Both TSPDesigner.exe and guidgen.exe require the .NET 3.5 Framework.

Resolution

To use guidgen.exe, the user may either install the .NET 3.5 Framework or use the version in \bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools.

To use TSPDesigner.exe, the user must install the .NET 3.5 Framework.

VirtualLightSensor.exe is not supported on the Windows 8 OS.
