During the installation of KB2756872 for Windows 8, you may encounter errors that prevent the installation from completing successfully. You may experience one or more of the following issues:
  • Setup Hangs or Stops responding at 12%, 13%, 14%, or 15%
  • You may notice that Tiles and Icons are missing after the installation
To work around these issues, follow the steps associated with your issue:

Issue: Setup Hangs or Stops Responding

Setup may hang or stop responding if a currently installed driver is outdated or not fully compatible. To end the stalled installation, you may need to force your PC to shutdown using the power button, and restart it. It my require up to 3 restart to stop the update from attempting to install. Restarting 3 times may bring up the Advanced Troubleshooting menu. If so, select Windows Startup Settings, and then select Restart.


After you have ended the install attempt, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Update Antivirus Programs

Some antivirus programs may interfere with the installation of KB2756872. Updating your antivirus program may help resolve the issue. 

Visit the antivirus manufacturer's website and look for updates for programs. Install any available updates.

Step 2: Install KB2771431

Install the update described in article 2771431. Instructions for installing the update can be found in article 2771431.

Step 3: Retry the installation of KB2756872

Install the update described in article 2756872 again. This time, the installation should proceed normally.


Issue 2: Tiles and Icons are missing

To work around these issues, log off of your Windows account and then log back on, the tiles and icons should be displayed correctly.
