Z Rotation fluctuates after completing the game controller calibration wizard on Windows 8

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer running Windows 8.         
  • You connect a USB Game Controller to the computer.
  • You open the Game Controller Calibration settings tab of the Game controller properties from the Control Panel.
  • You click the Calibrate… button and walk through the Device Calibration Wizard to calibrate the device.

In this scenario, after you complete the device calibration wizard, you may notice that the Z Rotation may fluctuate or flicker and will not maintain a content value.

Cause

Microsoft is aware of the problem; the Game Controller Calibration wizard does not handle a range that spans negative and positive numbers.

More Information

In general this is not a problem with the device, the Z Rotation control on the game controller still functions and works as expected. This is only a cosmetic issue, there is no effect to game play and calibration can be completed.
