View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows Server 2008 R2 print server with Windows 7 clients.
  • You create a print job on the Windows 7 client which is configured with an attribute such as duplex or color printing.

When the job actually prints from the printer, the job does not have the attribute specified.

Cause

This issue can occur if the Client Side Rendering Printers key becomes corrupted on the Windows 7 client. This causes a mismatch of the print driver settings on the Windows 7 client compared to the settings on the Windows Server 2008 R2 Server.

Resolution

You can resolve this issue by deleting the Client Side Rendering Printers key on the Windows 7 client from the following location in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print Provider\*-*-*-**-*********-**********-**********-****\Printers

The Printers registry key will be re-created automatically on the Windows 7 client the next time Windows connects to the printer.
