View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

A backup set cannot be created if a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) and non-CSV volume are included in the same set. Attempting to do so fails with the error VSS_E_FLUSH_WRITES_TIMEOUT after 60 seconds.

For example:

DISKSHADOW> begin backup
DISKSHADOW> add volume c:\clusterstorage\volume1
DISKSHADOW> add volume c:
DISKSHADOW> create

The last operation failed.
        - Returned HRESULT: 80042313
        - Error text: VSS_E_FLUSH_WRITES_TIMEOUT
