When using the Lenovo ThinkPad Ultrabay Optical Drive (ODD), the "Safely Remove Hardware" option may not appear in the system tray when using Windows 8. This can occur in the following cases:
- Booting the system with the Ultrabay ODD inserted, but with no optical media present.
OR
- After the system is booted, insert the Ultrabay ODD but with no optical media present.
If the optical media is present in the Ultrabay ODD device -- either on initial boot, or if the ODD is inserted after the system is started, the "Safely Remove Hardware" option will appear normally. However, if the optical media is inserted later, the "Safely Remove Hardware" prompt will not appear unless the ODD drive is reinserted with the optical media already present.
