UE-V roams empty folders and registry keys

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • A user has two computers and uses Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) to maintain a consistent user experience.
  • On the first computer, the user reorganizes bookmarks for Internet Explorer by moving them to an existing folder or creating a new folder and adding them. Old folders which no longer have bookmarks are deleted. Internet Explorer is closed on the first computer and settings synchronized.
  • On the second computer, Internet Explorer is started. The updated locations for the bookmarks are updated. However, old folders have not been removed.

Cause

The UE-V agent does not track the deletion of folders but only the files contained within. The same behavior applies to the registry keys and values respectively.

Resolution

To resolve this problem and prevent roaming of empty folders or registry keys, manually remove the empty folders and keys from each computer.
