New file or folder does not appear in a Library on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

When you create a file or a folder in a Library, the file or folder does not appear immediately. However, after you manually update the Library by pressing F5, the file or folder appears. This issue occurs on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. 

For example, assume that you right-click in a Library, you click New, and then you click Folder. In this situation, the folder does not appear. However, after you press F5 or right-click and then click Refresh, the folder appears.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. Workaround

To work around the issue, follow these steps:
  • In the Organize menu, click Folder and search options.
  • When the Folder Options dialog box appears, click the General tab.
  • In the Navigation pan, select the Show all folders and Automatically expand to current folder check boxes.
