You receive the following error when you start Personal Data Keeper (PDK):
The database type is not set in your dex.ini file. Please contact your system administrator.
Your dex.ini file for Personal Data Keeper is marked as Read Only.
This file is found within the Data folder of your PDK installation.
To mark a file as Read Only, right click on it in Windows Explorer and click Properties. In the Attributes area of the General tab, click to mark the Read-only checkbox.
In an environment that uses Termial Server or Citrix it may be desireable to have a Dex.ini file that is read only so that the last user information and printer is not updated each time a person logs in.
However, when the dex.ini for PDK is read only, Personal Data Keeper then looks for another Dex.ini in the C:\Users\xxx\AppData\local folder that is not Read Only.
Note xxx denotes the User ID of the user.
Copy the Dex.ini from the PDK\Data folder to the local folder so that it is user specific. Do not mark it as Read Only. Then each user has his or her own Dex.ini file to keep their personal settings in.
