Protected content playback errors on Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 after you install KB 2756872

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.
  • You install the update in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
    2756872 Windows 8 Client and Windows Server 2012 General Availability Cumulative Update
  • You try to play videos that have protected content in certain applications.
In this scenario, the video does not play. You may receive error codes that vary, depending the video player that you used.

Install this update from Windows Update

To open Windows Update, follow these steps:

  3. In the search box, type Windows Update.
