XL2000: KOR: Excel Quits Unexpectedly When You Use Replace Command with Long Formulas or Strings

In the Korean version of Microsoft Excel, when you use the Replace command on a worksheet or a cell range that contains long formulas or long strings, Excel may stop responding (crash), and you may receive one of the following error messages, depending on your operating system.

Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: The Korean version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

Manually edit the long formulas or long strings to make the changes.

Method 2

Split the long formulas or long strings into smaller ones that are fewer than 305 characters each.

Method 3

Use a text editor or word processor to replace text in long formulas or long strings. To do this, follow these steps:

1.	In Microsoft Excel, click Options on the Tools menu.
2.	Click the View tab. Click to select the Formulas check box, and then click OK.
3.	Select the range of cells that contain the long formulas or long strings, and click Copy on the Edit menu.
4.	Switch to a text editor or word processor, paste the formulas or strings into the word processor, and perform a replace operation.
5.	Copy the changed formulas or string to the Clipboard.
6.	Switch to Microsoft Excel and click Paste on the Edit menu.
7.	On the Tools menu, click Options.
8.	On the View tab, click to clear the Formulas check box, and then click OK.

NOTE: Array formulas that are in the modified range are not preserved. You must retype them as array formulas (press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER in Microsoft Windows, or COMMAND+RETURN on the Macintosh).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
