The Alt+Tab keyboard shortcut unexpectedly displays the desktop in Windows 7

Symptoms

When you press Alt+Tab to switch between programs in Windows 7, the keyboard shortcut does not work. Instead, the desktop is displayed as if you are using the Aero Peek feature.

Workaround

To work around this issue, disable the Aero Peek feature. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type advanced system settings in the Search programs and files field, and then click View advanced system settings in the Control Panel list.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
  3. On the Visual Effects tab, clear the Enable Aero Peek check box.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
