No Z-Axis movement seen on game controller test properties dialog on Windows 8

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer running Windows 8
  • You connect a USB Game Controller to the computer
  • You open the Game controller settings > Test dialog for the device from the Control Panel
  • You move the Z-Axis control (increase or decrease)

In this scenario, you will notice that when you move the Z-Axis control (increase or decrease) there is no movement shown on the test dialog.

Cause

Microsoft is aware of the problem, the Z-Axis is not updating when viewing the test dialog.

More Information

In general this is not a problem with the device, the Z-Axis control on the game controller still functions and works as expected. This is a cosmetic issue, there is no effect to gameplay and calibration can be completed.
