Symptoms

When you try to install Microsoft Lync Server 2013, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Alter failed for Server 'ServerName\Lynclocal'

Cause

This issue occurs because the computer does not meet the memory (RAM) requirements of Lync Server 2013.

Resolution
