FIX: Dynamic IP address is assigned to a USB RNDIS network adapter on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based run-time image that supports a USB Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS) function client driver and Internet Connection Sharing.
  • You run the image on a device and configure the USB RNDIS network adapter to use a static IP address.
  • You connect the adapter to a desktop computer by using a USB cable.
  • You disconnect the adapter from the desktop and then reconnect it.
In this scenario, the USB RNDIS network adapter is assigned a dynamic IP address.

Notes
  • You expect the adapter to be assigned a static IP address.
  • This issue does not occur when Internet Connection Sharing is disabled on the device.
