TIFF image files are not compressed correctly when you merge them into a multipage TIFF file on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run an application that uses the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Automation Layer 2.0 feature on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You use the application to merge some Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) image files into a multipage TIFF file. To do this, you apply a kind of compression that is not Limpel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression.
In the scenario, only the first frame in the output TIFF file is compressed correctly. The remaining frames are compressed by using LZW compression.

Cause

This issue occurs because the WIA Automation Layer 2.0 feature usesGDI+ version 1.1 instead of GDI+ version 1.0in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2. However, the WIA Automation Layer 2.0 feature does not comply withGDI+ version 1.1 when the feature handles TIFF image files.
