Workaround

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To work around this problem, note that Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 has added functionality so that Internet Explorer version 5.5 can use compressed content over HTTP 1.0. However, to enable this functionality, use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to view the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
Add the following registry value, and then quit Registry Editor:
Value Name: AllowGZipThroughProxy
Data Type: REG_DWORD
