XADM: Cannot Set Contributor or Author Permissions on Public Folders

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In Exchange 2000 Server, users who have only contributor rights to a public folder cannot perform a drag-and-drop operation to move items to that public folder.

In Exchange Server 5.5, users who have at least contributor rights to a public folder can perform a drag-and-drop operation to move an item from the desktop to that public folder. The only other requirement is that the focus in Microsoft Outlook must be on a folder to which the user has at least reviewer rights. If you attempt to perform the same procedure in Exchange 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Can't copy items. You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator.
