FIX: Internet Explorer does not use the correct font to display a character string that contains English alphanumeric characters on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device that is configured for Japanese

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Japanese version of a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based image on a device that includes the following locale settings, components, and registry setting:
    • Locale settings
      • Language Packs to Build: Japanese (Japan) - (0411)
      • Installed UI Language Packs: Japanese (Japan) - (0411)
      • Default UI Language: Japanese (Japan) - (0411)
      • Default Locale: Japanese (Japan) - (ja-JP)
    • Components

      Add the following catalog items for the Japanese locale:
      • SYSGEN_NLS_JA
      • SYSGEN_NLS_JA_JP
      • SYSGEN_NLS_JA_JP_RADSTR
      • SYSGEN_FONTS_MSGOTHIC

      Add Internet Explorer 7 Sample Browser:
      • SYSGEN_IE7_IESAMPLE
    • Registry setting
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\International\Scripts\24
      "IEFixedFontName"="MS Gothic" 
      "IEPropFontName"="MS Gothic"
  • You open Internet Explorer and then access a webpage on the device.

In this scenario, a character string that contains English alphanumeric characters is not displayed in the correct font on the webpage.

Resolution

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows Embedded Compact 7 Monthly Update September 2012. In the "File information" section, the package file name contains the processor type.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace any other updates.
