"Unsupported configuration" warning when you run a Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based virtual machine in Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Hyper-V role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You run a Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based virtual machine on the computer.
In this scenario, the following Warning event is logged in the Hyper-V-Worker or Hyper-V-Integration log:For example, the following Warning event is logged in the Hyper-V-Worker log:

Resolution

This is a known issue that occurs when a virtual machine that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 is hosted in Windows Server 2008 R2. You can safely ignore the warning message.
