FIX: Poor performance in an Excel workbook that connects to a TFS 2010 server and that contains many TFS work items

Symptoms

Assume that you open a Microsoft Excel workbook that contains a connection to a Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 server. The Excel workbook contains a large number of TFS work items. In this situation, you may experience usability issues and poor performance when you perform any of the following workbook operations:
  • You open the Excel workbook and it makes an initial connection to the TFS 2010 server.
  • You refresh a selected list in order to synchronize the changes with the work items and links that are on the server.
  • You publish the changes from a selected list to the server.
  • You select a query in order to create a new list that consists of TFS work items.
  • You use the built-in editor to create Microsoft Visual Basic code in the Excel workbook.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.

Restart requirement

You have to restart the computer after you install the hotfix if the affected files are being used at the time of installation. We recommend that you close all Visual Studio 2010-related components before you install the hotfix.
