XADM: You Cannot Rename an IFS Folder in the Left Pane of Windows Explorer

Symptoms

When you use Microsoft Windows Explorer and click a folder on the Exchange Installable File System (IFS) drive, if you attempt to rename that folder in the left pane, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Cannot rename <Folder Name>: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

Cause

Exchange IFS does not allow you to rename a folder with two or more open handles.

Workaround

Use the right pane of Windows Explorer to rename the folder, or do not click the folder before you try to rename it in the left pane.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
