"0x00000050" Stop error when you create a volume snapshot in Windows Vista, in Windows Server 2008, in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Consider the following scenario:

• You have one or more disks that are larger than 64 TB on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2.
• You try to create a volume snapshot by using Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on the computer.
• A volume that is larger than 64 TB is selected to be the shadow copy storage area (also known as the "diff area").

In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:Notes

• This Stop error describes a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA issue.
• The parameters that are displayed in this Stop error message depend on the configuration of the computer.
• Not all "0x00000050" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Hotfix information

Important This hotfix has been re-released to address an issue in which the digital signature on files produced and signed by Microsoft will expire prematurely, as described in Microsoft Security Advisory 2749655.
